DOUBLE THE PLEASURE - DOUBLE THE FUN !!!

Once Bitten, Twice Smitten is the deliciously cute, latest release from Ariana Hawkes. The story is a light, happy, well written, fast-paced novella with a delightful little helping of heated attraction and paranormal romance. If you're looking for a shoot-um-up, action packed, dangerous adventure then this is not the book for you but if you want a light-hearted, charming and captivating story with engaging characters and a sweet happily ever after ending, then this will definitely satisfy your sweet tooth! Twenty two year old Volupta Aspen Richardson has always felt self conscious about her body as a result of being bullied and teased in school about her weight. She's never even kissed a boy much less had a boyfriend but she has never let that stand in her way of being a proud member of the Missing City Rollergirls Roller Derby Team. She enjoys being part of the team and loves her teammates but she secretly aches for a loving relationship. So when two handsome studs show up, both claiming to be her mates, she's more than just a little perplexed and overwhelmed. Yep, I said mates because the two hunky guys are actually werewolves. Huh? Oh, and did I forget to mention that she is a soon to be werewolf herself? Huh? Oh yeah! As a child while playing in the forest, she was approached by two wolf pups who wanted to play with the beautiful little human girl. The two pups became a little over excited and apparently one of them accidentally bit her. She became ill and almost died and as a result of that bite, she is now to become a werewolf and she's about to have her first shift. What? Unfortunately, she is totally unaware of what's happening since her parents have kept all this a secret. Uh-oh! That's a no-no mom and dad because those two wolf pups are now young weremen, and guess who just showed up to claim her! Childhood friends, Chase Cooper and Brad MacConnell have known two certainties all their lives - they were each destined to become alphas, and It was their fate to claim the lovely little girl from that fateful day. They only have three little problems. First, they don't know where she lives. Second, they don't even know her name since her parents moved away and changed their names after the incident. And third and most important, they don't know which of them bit her because the one that inflicted the bite, will be the one to whom she will be drawn and will get to claim her. But there's another problem neither had never, ever considered- she's attracted to them both! What the heck? What will happen when Aspen discovers she's now a werewolf? And which of the sexy wolf shifters will she choose? Oh my! No spoilers here but I will say this...... Beautiful, curvaceous young woman-check! Two equally handsome alpha wolf shifters-check! Parent drama, young male weremen jealousy, mischievous antics, a little suspense and a very confusing predicament-check! Heated attraction, romance and a mild ménage a trois-you bet! This is a stand alone story with no cliffhangers, so enjoy! Great entertainment and a very sweet read!

I was given Once Bitten Twice Smitten as an ARC for an honest review and I couldn't put it down!! This is a very fast read and will leave you wanting to know more of Aspen, Brad and Chase's story.

Aspen is now a curvy young woman who plays on a roller derby team. Her parents had moved the family after Aspen had been bitten by a wolf pup when she was a little girl. Brad and Chase were the wolf pups that had been playing with the little girl in the woods when one of them bit her by accident. Brad and Chase come across each other as they are trying to find her. She is the mate to the one that bit her. Of course they each want her for themselves and are being competitive and keeping information from each other. Aspen has been having pain and these weird things happening to her body recently and doesn't know what to do about it. Brad spots her first and follows her home. He hears her screaming so he rings the doorbell. She manages to answer the door and tells her that he had had the same pain. He told her to ask her parents why they left the area, that they would have some answers for her.

You have to read Once Bitten Twice Smitten to find out what happens!!!

FANTASTIC READ

I was given this ARC to read and review. I have to say I a fan of Ariana Hawks but even through I love her books when you once read this book you will be twice in love and a fan too. Ariana weavers magic with her words. It's Brilliant and Lovable. The characters are exciting, imaginative, captivating, strong, handsome, a BBW, compelling, lovable and intriguing. The dialog has a good pace, powerful, humorous, HOT I mean scorching Hot, so life like you will identify with the story and it is well written. Five Stars ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ Four Flames

Once BITTEN TWICE SMITTEN by Ariana Hawks:

Once there was a little girl playing in the woods with 2 wolf pups and as they were playing one accidently bite the little girl and she almost died. But she survives. Years later Aspen is a BBW Roller Derby player, she is happy with her life, but she has always felt self conscious of her size. All thru school Aspen is bullied. She always had this funny kind of feeling every once in a while. Then on one of the days she felt weird. Some one knocks on her door and then her life changed. There are two handsome stranger telling that she needs to ask her parents about the weird feelings she is haven.

Brad and Chase are two werewolves who used to play and be very good friends as children. As they grew up they grew apart because they both were destined to be Alpha's. Unfortunately each of their parents always each of them that their mate was out there and it's time to find her. But no one knows which one of them is her fated mate.

This is a lighthearted and hilarious story. I hope this is the beginning that's how much I enjoyed this book

An universal novel

It is a world classic, that you can compare easily with Don Quixote, only that this book is nearer to us. The only problem
is the translation ( tradutore-traditore), as any satire it lost a lot when you read in other than no slavonic lenguage. If you
read in chex or russian you can soil yourself with laughter. This book is not only about satire, is about humanity with any
of its cualities and evils, is about you and me; you can see in its pages your personality pros and fails. Almost unknown
by the so-called western culture it is a compulsory reading for any person with a minimun of culture.
I am a Latin-american citizen, born , educated in Central America but I feel this opus as a mine. It is universal.

Czechoslovakian Miracle

The idea,the dialogs..everything here are clever and original...Hasek gives us a funny hero who you don't know if he is stupid or pretends the stupid in the chaotic disorganised Austrian army.The book is so entertaining,that actually cannot leave it from your hands...the most interesting is that "stupid"(?) Schweik is proved finally more clever than the other characters who search for glory,fame,recognition...who try to achieve something and gain something... This book is a Czechoslovakian Miracle...a masterpiece about a hero who has not the reputation of Alexander the Great or Napoleon...but somehow surpasses all the famous historical personalities...Scweik is the hero of Czechs and Slovaks without doubt.Read the book definitely...rarely you can find such stories and with many funny elements.

Classic novel; incomplete older translation

I must first provide the caveat that this is the only translation of "The Good Soldier Svejk" that I've read. This is the 1930 translation by Paul Selver. Two small points that may be indicative of what might be considered "missing" about this version is that the title character's name is spelled "Schweik", i.e. the Germanized version of his name, rather than Svejk, even without the Czech diacriticals, which would have been no trouble to spell in "conventional" lettering, in hindsight. Also, even though the short bio at the start mentions that Hasek had "completed" 4 volumes of his intended 6, this paperback can appear confusing in that only 3 books are specifically laid out in the index and in this edition.

By all accounts, the later translation by Cecil Parrott gives a fuller account of the Hasek original, such as including the 4th volume, left incomplete at Hasek's death, as well as being more explicit. The latest translation, by Zenny Sadlon and Emmett Joyce, is actually appearing in 3 separate volumes. In fairness, I should state that at least one writer on "Svejk", Thomas Kovach, actually prefers the Selver translation to the Parrott translation. If you come across the Selver translation and you're interested in the novel, and keep in mind that you won't be getting a complete English rendition and picture of the novel, feel free to dive in.

Good starter book

For anyone just starting out in the Bujinkan, this a good book to read. Jack has always been insightful and detail oriented, but with any martial-art book I've read there are things you just don't see. You need a skilled instructor to show you those details. This is a good referance book.

This title is definitely showing its age. I purchased it to keep the Ninpo book company on the shelf. The material is none too thought provoking. Save your money and buy Soke's book on knife and gun fighting.

See why I gave a book I couldn't even finish 5 stars...

I wasn't going to view this book, because I didn't finish it. I stopped at 80% and couldn't continue. But then I couldn't stop thinking about it...it's haunted me ever since I stopped reading it. Then I decided if a book could overtake my every thought and pull me in so deep as to cause me such anguish that I can't even turn the page from where I stopped...it deserves 5 stars. At the least. It's not the book that is lacking, it's me. I lack the courage to continue. Some day I might, but not right now while it still hurts so much.

Nicolas and Isaac are both great guys. Any girl would be lucky to have either one. Peyton cheats on them both. She's in love with Nicholas, but sleeps with her ex boyfriend, Isaac, while they're on a 'break'. Then for circumstantial reasons she marries Isaac but is still madly in love with Nicolas. So she ends up cheating on Isaac, while promising Nic that she will leave him...she just needs time, so she says. When another reason popped up that she couldn't leave Isaac to be with Nicolas I just couldn't take anymore. She just keeps hurting Nic, and she's hurting Isaac and he doesn't even know about it yet. I got to the point where I really don't care how it ends up. Regardless of what she chooses, everyone loses. Everyone hurts. Everyone's heart is broken. I just can't see my way to a happily ever after for anyone in this story, and the sad thing is that both men DESERVE one. But I'm so angry at Peyton for everything's she's done that I don't know how she could possible be that HEA for either one of them. Who knows? Maybe she isn't! I'm too much of a coward to continue reading to find out!

Hated these characters SOME SPOILERS!!!!

I feel somewhat bad writing a review on a book that involves cheating. I really don't like to read about it. I didn't know though that it was about cheating before I started reading. I have to say I have never hated a character as much as Peyton. I actually found her a bit mental with her behavior. I could not understand why she didn't just get a divorce. I could have maybe seen it, if she loved her husband also. Was it because of the money he had? And if it was I hate her all over again. I even actually started to hate Nicolas and his behavior. I thought it was horrible how he treated his girlfriend Lindsey. I have never seen a group of people telling each how much they love one another while treating each other horribly. I didn't find the love story tragic or beautiful. I guess they all appeared to me to be nothing but selfish cheaters. I will say the writing was great, and will read this author again for sure.

I couldn't feel sorry for Peyton and Nicholas and by the end of the book I didn't care about them. I dislike cheating but when all parties cheat it does not bother me. Is there really a victim in that case? IMO no. They claim to love each other forever and use that to justify their cheating. However they again have a needless separation and it becomes apparent that they did not love each other enough. At that point I no longer care about them. That is what happened here.

Peyton and Nicholas were on a break when she got trashed and slept with Issac. Issac was previously her boyfriend but when he cheated on her, she broke up with him and started dating Nicholas. After she cheated with Issac her relationship with Nicholas crashed and she married Isaac. Her and Nicholas are separated for years and then their not. Then she cheats with Nicholas but who cares because it is extremely likely that Isaac was also cheating on her. Then she and Nicholas,who swore they would stay together forever because they loved each other apparently just didn't care enough and drifted apart. Another needless separation with both of them moving on until they finally put forth enough effort years later to be together again.

Despite the HEA ending I did not believe that the would be together forever. Something would happen and they would again break apart. However who really cares? Not me. The only thing I care about is that this is a KU book.......

About the Author
Bill Sharpe is an independent researcher in science, technology and society. He was a research director at Hewlett Packard Laboratories where he led research into everyday applications of technology and introduced scenario methods to HP to support long-range research and innovation. Since leaving HP he has specialized in science, technology and policy studies for business strategy and public policy foresight. With a background in psychology he is particularly interested in drawing on leading edge research in cognition and systems thinking to find new ways of tackling complex problems. He is a member of International Futures Forum.

Exploring th potential within the Three Horizon framework

The value of the three horizons in our planning, our thinking about the future and in managing the tasks and opportunities within these different horizons, for example in innovation, all are introduced in this book by Bill Sharpe. This book provides an excellent introduction to the value of the three horizon approach and equally points you towards further bodies of work to build your understanding. The 3H framework is undervalued and through this book, it can be recognized as valuable to any future framing discussions

Equally the value within this book is this very personal view of Bill's drawn from some excellent examples of the use of the three horizons from his experience. Bill places a real importance of how to create the right environment to allow for conflicting opinions and views to coalesce around themes.As Bill points out you are allowing for the opportunity to bring together a diversity of opinions often found in discussing the future to begin to unite and work together , through the 3H framework, the combining of these different, often conflicting views of the future to achieve often a richer canvas to work from.

A more than helpful book for those interested in mapping out the future. In some ways I would have liked more about the actual facilitating mechanics that can be used but the book offers different principles that need to be always present.

3 horizons describes old horizons

Disappointed with this book because it contained little that was new to me. The 3 Horizons as described here were standard practice at Citibank from the 1970's onwards. Every manager was expected to be able to say 'where they were', where they were going' and ;'how were they going to get there'. Since this was often done collaboratively without the book's fancy words and diagram it was easy for the Bank to inculculate it as a method across the world. I still use it all the time, have taught it many times and insisted it be used in my time as a CEO and Executive.
As Tom Abeles said it just needed a short paper not a book to describe the technique.

Insightful but caught in its own paradigm, H1

Three Horizons comes, in part, out of the International Futures Forum, a creative knowledge sharing, consultancy founded by a number of, at the time, edge thinkers. One of the founders, Max Boisot developed a model of information flow, I-Space, with its Social Learning Cycle. It has been well captured in the classic volume, Knowledge Assets. With Boisot's ideas and even those of this volume's author one can see how the Three Horizon's model can be captured by its own conventional thinking, at the H1 level, the extant paradigm.

In the movie, The Outlaw Jose Wales, an old Indian says of the "hero", that he will always seek an "edge". Three Horizons is one of a number of such techniques to work with various groups to approach understanding of current ingrained systems and the struggle for alternatives to emerge. The theory is a variance on the current focus on innovation with such ideas as that of Clayton Christensen's thinking, more complex approaches such as CLA , causal layer analysis, pioneered by Sohail Inayatulah, Gordon and Prince's Synectics or the Cynefin models of David Snowden. All of these dig beneath the intellectual and try to approach the issues by getting clients to explore their personal biases. These work best when dealing with organizational issues. But some work well with creative problem-solving focus on development of "widgets" such as the emergent idea of "crowd sourcing".

The seminal insight that Three Horizons identifies is that old systems, struggling to survive will take two possible paths, suppression of the emergent or co-opting of the idea. We saw this with the US automotive industry faced with the Japanese automobiles; we see this today with the rise of MOOC's, competency based certification and similar alternatives to the dominant post secondary educational model.

We also see that the "edge" thinking is really plastic and is most useful in the hands of a seasoned practitioner. In other words, most of these models are an artificial frame in which to engage the participants in creative problem solving. They are not cookie cutter methodologies that provide a path. In fact, in the volume, the author describes an innovative native Alaskan health care system which was used to help the thinking of the Scottish health care system. The author points out the three horizon elements, yet the people developing it came along a much different path.

What makes the volume frustrating is manifest with the "case studies" which is indicative of the style and approach of the author. A client has a problem, the consultants came in with their Three Horizons approach, the clients gained insights and were able to resolve the issues at hand- maybe! There is no indication how that resolution was resolved and the long term outcomes. The magic in the sessions was never clearly articulated. So this volume is, as to be expected, not a "how to" approach. And, unlike the other methods, mentioned above, there is no indication that this methodology has a community of practitioners as we find in a variety of other consulting practices such as psychology, for example.

It is one tool, plastic in form/function, in a consultant's armamentarium. As with a skilled surgeon, it needs deft "hands" and the ability to draw out other instruments as needed. It is far from being the Swiss Army knife in innovation, creativity and institutional problem-solving. It is far too intellectual, though the author may take exception, here.

The material seems "padded" to get to book length and would appear better suited to a long article in one of the lay journals or a more detailed treatment for an academic journal. This volume is a personal journey of the author and thus has elements of uncertainty as to how it will be received by an undefined public.
