About the Author
Arohi Redkar is a software designer. She has a master's degree in software engineering from National University in San Diego. She has worked extensively in the .NET environment and has a passion for studying human aspects of user interface design.
Ken Rabold is a software engineering manager with Texas Instruments, where he works at enabling multimedia technologies on Microsoft Pocket PC and Smartphone platforms. Prior to joining TI, Ken was the senior software architect for BSQUARE Corporation, where he worked on various XML and MSMQ technologies for embedded devices.
A graduate of Seattle University and the University of Washington, Ken is also a Microsoft Embedded "Most Valuable Professional."
Richard Costall (MCSD, MCAD, MCSD.NET) has over 17 years of development experience and works for 1st, the U.K.'s leading software solution for financial advisers and intermediaries, designing and implementing independent financial adviser applications in the financial services sector. Although mainly specializing in Visual Basic, XML/XSLT, COM, ASP, and MSMQ, Richard has now focused his attention on the world of .NET. Richard is also the Midlands regional coordinator for VBUG (Visual Basic User Group) and spends a fair amount of his time organizing and presenting at meetings.

Lost Technology that still survives in WCF

"Pro MSMQ" is probably just what you need to connect your applications to each other on a Windows system or to another Windows computer. Written by the designers and testers of MSMQ, this book delivers a comprehensive discussion of the subject. Note, MSMQ defines the underlying process for the latest WCF operations. This book covers the theory, basic operations, management tools, and example code.
Sometimes my customers need legacy code revisited or expanded for their needs. In this case I needed to produce a sophisticated service application that sent important messages and data between computers. Message Queues turned out to be the best selection to do the job, hense this book was needed. Even though the software technology appears to be dated by a decade at this point in time( 2013 ), MSMQ is alive and well even in Windows 8 and Windows Server 2012. So, don't you dare laugh at this review. MSMQ can operate 50 times faster than the latest darling of the waves, Web Services. And it still rules the radio waves for this reason.
I think that this book delivers the best initial introduction to understanding MSMQ and beginning programming for it. I try a bit too hard to understand any subject from a single source and this book is a bit short on programming examples. That is why I added "Designig Appplications with MSMQ" to expand the introduction. However, this book will set you on the right path and let you know the inside secrets to getting your application working with solid reliability. For any reference under 10 dollars, that gets my vote. The writing is clear and the examples were to the point. This book helped me to surmount the learning curve and be productive in writing MSMQ code right away. If you need this knowledge, look right here.

Looks like a xerox of a bad photocopy

Maybe it is just my copy of the book, but it looks so cheaply printed as to be distracting. It looks like a xerox copy of a bad run off from another printer. The text is sometimes so garbled it is hard to read.
On to the technical review...
The technical portion of this book is weak. Most of the material is the same as the MSDN help (very vague and nonhelpful).
In particular I HATE it when books give you a ton of examples and they are all the exact same as the MSDN ones (and wrong to boot). For me the overall review of the technology was ok, but the implementation is very weak. Most of the book assumes you are running in an Active Directory environment and I am not. And almost all of the examples in the book are localhost type of examples. Who is going to bother will all of this for an app that runs on one machine?
