Stitch by stitch… A young artist is confronted by all too realistic hallucinations and is thrown into a dark world where the line between reality and delusion is removed. His visions take a grisly turn when they reveal his closest friend Trey engaged in the bizarre ritualistic torture of mouth sewing. Odder still, Trey’s victim is always the same mysterious young woman, a woman who went missing a decade before. Driven to learn more about Trey and the woman who was his victim, the young artist takes on an odd quest; he begins to follow the clues offered during his hallucinations. Some clues direct him to visits with Duffy, Trey’s drug-dealing mother. Duffy, an eccentric ex-hippy, lives in Wayne Manor, the famed Pasadena estate used in the old Batman television series. Long estranged from her son Trey, she leads a hedonistic lifestyle while caring for an elderly, drug-addicted, exhibitionist-millionaire. Much later, and with Duffy’s help, the elderly addict, manages to shed light on the truth about Trey. Other clues send him on dreamlike romps through the streets of Los Angeles, the beaches of Santa Monica, and others direct him inward, toward his own illustrations, which begin to taunt him during moments of weakness. Against his will, a deep hatred for his former friend Trey grows, all while the visions become more graphic and cruel, until the young artist is led toward an insatiable desire to harm Trey in retaliation. Mouth Sewn Shut offers a rare, first person glimpse into the horrific, yet slow onset of psychosis and homelessness, the frivolous nature of the art world and of tightly held family secrets, all through one man’s eyes. A world few will encounter or forget.

Get Ready For A Read That Will Leave Your Mouth Hanging Open !
By Vitina
Greg Slap...Where Have you been hiding ? I read this and is found myself wrapped up in a story that kept me going until I completed it in one sitting. I am not going to give you this story in a nutshell . You need to take a number of hours out of your life and discover this author and his ability to tell a tale that will have you questioning the characters sanity and in my case some aspects of my own. It is a very dark and disturbing psychological horror story. Give this one a go...and see what you think. My predication is that we have an author here who will remind you of what a really great read should and can be.....Thank you....Just me...Vitina Molgaard from over st Horror Novel Reviews

Intrigued by a decade's old murder?an artist descends into mental illness or ascends into a clearer view of reality
By Theresa K. Read
Disclaimer: I'm not a huge horror fan. I read this book on recommendation of some friends, and must admit, the character study was so intriguing, it carries the book beyond genre tags. The protagonist is an artist on the brink of emerging, just as his art and mind collaborate to send him to a "higher reality" or mental illness. The writer skillfully weaves just the right mix of truth and madness to leave us guessing to the end.
Wonderfully done and well written. Would read again. I don't give any book a five star rating unless I can honestly say that.

A true masterpiece.
By diegosaville
We are, quite literally, hours away from welcoming the arrival of 2014. To assume you’d heard the last out of me in regards to 2013’s standout genre efforts seems reasonable. However, I gambled with one final novel this year, hoping for something decent all the while anticipating mediocrity – at best. My expectations weren’t just exceeded, they were completely blown away, as was I. Greg Slap’s Mouth Sewn Shut is one of the most riveting works I’ve been privileged to read. Not just this year, but ever.
The story, at its core, is an extremely dark character study. An unnamed young artist is on the cusp of taking his talents away from the corporate model and refocusing his energies on personal business ordeals. Attempting to step out on his own, the pressure is immense, but he handles it rather well, securing a gig that will keep food on the table and the lights burning bright. Those lights however, are about to dim courtesy of a string of visions that have him questioning reality, and his sanity. Trey, best friend to our leading male, has been a consistent level in his life for years, but one extremely gruesome image changes all of that, triggering a rapid descent into madness and a taut mission to unravel a mystery buried years ago. But can our protagonist make sense of matters before he spirals out of control?
That may sound a little vague, but it has to. To spoil this one would be criminal, and while I may be no stranger to breaking the law, this is one instance in which I’m going to keep myself clean. Know this: You’ve got to read Mouth Sewn Shut.
If you’re a fan of vintage Stephen King, you’re going to adore this novel. Greg’s fluidity in the dialogue and overall pacing departments echoes the work of a young King, and as a man who cherishes King’s earlier works far more than the majority of his more recent efforts, that strikes a thick chord. The focal character in Mouth Sewn Shut could easily be likened to a hybrid of Jack Torrance and Dennis Guilder, as crazy as it may sound. We’re dealing with an almost heroic artist who slowly comes unhinged while attempting to gain purchase on reality and do the right thing… Go ahead, tell me that doesn’t sound like a combination of Jack and Dennis. The sputtering hero… the borderline lunatic.
But Greg never comes across as a thief, or an overly influenced author. He’s doing his own thing; carving out a niche unique to the majority of authors in the business today. And furthermore, he seems like a guy who has a sound understanding of modern lingo and contemporary situational designs. There’s a scene in the novel in which the key players are gathered at an art showcase, and I’ll be damned if this showcase doesn’t come alive on paper. Greg is convincing, through and through, and it stretches far beyond the art showcase. It’s everywhere in this book. From beginning to end this one is realistic, profoundly engaging and genuinely addictive.
Mouth Sewn Shut didn’t make my “Best of” list for 2013. That’s because I hadn’t opened the book until after I’d written the piece. To reiterate, this is, hands down, no doubt lingering, one of the greatest pieces of genre fiction to hit the market in 2013. Original, unpredictable and mesmerizing, Mouth Sewn Shut is the unheralded masterpiece of the year. Do yourself a true justice and order it, immediately.
