A solid buy if you want to learn basic Korean expressions

As the title of the book suggests, this book is about Korean expressions and phrases used in everyday situations like talking on the phone, greetings, congratulating someone etc. Every expression is explained with regards to the type of situation in which the expression is used and how one would go about using it. This is very helpful and gives more confidence in using an expression as opposed to just giving an English equivalent. The literal meaning of an expression is sometimes given which is also helpful, at least if you're learning Korean. For some expressions both a deferential (formal) style and a polite (less formal) style of the expression is given, which enables you to use the expression in different social settings. Every chapter ends with example dialogues and a dialogue used for practicing where you fill in the blanks with the appropriate expressions.

The book doesn't use romanization, so if you're not familiar with Hangul, the Korean alphabet, this book isn't for you. On my Kindle version of the book the dialogues pop up twice, but once I got used to this glitch I didn't find it much of a nuisance. If you're in need of a quick reminder of an expression you have to look it up using the chapter index since the book doesn't provide a vocabulary list. Something I feel the book is lacking.

All in all, this book is a solid buy if you know Hangul and want to learn basic Korean expressions while getting some helpful information about how and when to use them.

ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!! More, Please!

I am very well acquainted with the BDSM lifestyle having been a part of it for years. This story was written by a man who clearly knows what he's talking about.

The main characters are absolutely compelling. Their journey together as well as individually is so well written I found myself pulled into their world and wanting to be a part of it. For the first half of the book, I had a love/hate relationship with Sgt Tate. Three quarters through and I fell in love with him. Dan is a remarkable young man. I'd love to spend time with him, as well.

I went through every emotion reading this book. Love, hate, lust, disgust, sadness, anger, joy. I laughed, I cried. There are 3 points in the story where I just completely teared up. The emotions this story conjures are very powerful. It was a very emotional roller coaster ride. If you don't tear up at least once, you have no soul.

Please, please write more...just nothing further in this story. For me, where the story ends is where it should stay. I would devour anything else. This book left me needing more. A truly fantastic read. Thank you SO much for this amazing story!

WOW Unbeleiveable

Wow. I cannot come to wrap my head around what I just read. I was expecting something different, way different. I was expecting an erotic story. What I got was an in depth study into these two men. That's not to say that it isn't sexual, it is. In fact the sexual escapades are sometimes extremely graphic. What surprised me most is how the sex and the story seamlessly intertwine with one another all while sustaining a high level of intensity. Wow again.

From a book standpoint, it is well crafted. There is a believable plot that continually builds; and the pacing feels right between the really intense parts to the quieter parts. There are surprises throughout. The characters are well thought out including the minor ones. If I had one complaint, it that the author could describe things in more detail; what is presented is minimal, but it keeps the movement flowing and it fits into a military feel.

From an erotica standpoint, it is well crafted as well. The sex is varied, so it doesn't feel like someone's fetish being described for hundred of pages. This is definitely sadomasochism. I felt at times that I was masochistic for liking some parts that should normally repulse me, but I kept reading.

I am so glad to have found a book that the author didn't dumb down the twisted aspect just to reach a wider audience.

I have never heard of Robert Zigmont, but I would love to read more of his work.

A PERFECT READ

Okay this book surprised the hell out of me. I bought it on a recommendation of a friend. I was expecting just some erotica with lots of the usual fun. I got that plus a whole lot more that was way more satisfying and introspective. This is a very intimate look at two people and how they help each other to mature. The character development was just so brilliantly laid out. I wanted to know these people. There were emotional punches that I did not expect at all. All in all, one of the most satisfying reads of any genre that I have had in awhile.

MY FAVORITE STORY

When I was a teenager, I went to see the movie Lost Horizon seven times. During my 74 years, I read the book many times. After I retired, I made four trips to that part of the world, and spent many months each time searching for that wonderful Shangri-La dream. If you have never read Hilton's classic, and you are a person with an optimistic spiritual outlook, then The Lost Horizon is a must for you. If you read it and want to believe it, then you should visit Burma and the temples of the ancient city of Pagon, and then spend time in the three kingdoms of the Himalayas: Nepal, Ladakh and Bhutan, in that order. You will be moved to tell others, or write about your spiritual experience. I was so moved. May your days be filled with the magic of life. Sirrom

Shangri-La or Shambhala- I'd make the journey in a minute!

What struck me most about this book is how non-dated it was for having been written in 1933. First of all, the story starts in Afghanistan during an airlift to evacuate foreign nationals during an anti-western revolution. Next, the main characters are essentially skyjacked to an unknown destination against their will for unknown purposes. As for the characters, they seem very familiar and contemporary also: a world-weary and burned-out government bureaucrat, a gung-ho and impatient young military officer, a business man that has stolen over 100 million dollars from investors through stock fraud, and a fundamentalist Christian missionary that believes in one "true" religion and holds all others in contempt. There is also the conviction among several of these characters that globally "the whole game's going to pieces."

However, there is also something hauntingly timeless about this story. It occurs to me that the hidden civilization of Shangri-La is based on the mythical kingdom of Shambhala, where immortal masters live that look after the evolution and welfare of mankind. The great mountain of Karacul that looms over the valley also seems symbolic of Mt. Meru- the axis of the cosmos- and where the gods are reputed to dwell. It is certainly no coincidence that most of the people that find Shangri-La are the world weary- and the journey comes close to killing them. That would seem to be a metaphor for spiritual enlightenment. For this is what the lucky and the worthy find in Shangri-La, all the time in the world, or rather out of the world, for contemplation, preservation of all the worthy attainments of the human race, and the pursuit of wisdom. Sounds pretty close to heaven to me....

An interesting side note is the fact that _Lost Horizon_ was the first paperback title ever published by Pocket Books in 1939. This particular edition bears the same classic cover art as the original.

A Masterpiece

The story of a group of people who survive an airplane crash in Tibet and find shelter at a mysterious monastery is extremely well known, but unlike most novels, Lost Horizon is less about its characters and their siutation--interesting though those elements may be--than it is about their thoughts and ideas. Written as it was on eve of World War II, these thoughts and ideas center upon developing a way of life that preserves, rather than destroys, that which is finest in both humanity and the world in general.
The novel is elegantly and simply written and possesses tremendous atmosphere. Although enjoyable as a purely "fun" read, it is also thought provoking, and the thoughts it provokes linger long after the book is laid aside. I can not imagine any one not being moved by the book, both emotionally and intellectually, regardless of their background or interests. If such a person exists, I do not think I would care to meet them.
Although James Hilton wrote a number of worthy novels, Lost Horizon is the novel for which he is best remembered, a great popular success when first published and a genuine masterpiece of 20th Century literature.

About the Author
Robert Gandt is a former Navy fighter/attack pilot who logged more than three hundred day and night carrier landings in the A-4 Skyhawk. At age twenty, he was the youngest aviator in the U.S. Navy. He has been a weapons test pilot, a flight instructor,and an airshow pilot. As a captain for Pan Am and then Delta Air Lines, he was based in Hong Kong, Berlin, San Francisco, and New York, accumulating more than thirty thousand flying hours. In 1995 he returned to his old squadron to fly the F/A-18 Hornet and write about a class of men and women training to fly the Navy's hottest fighter.

Gandt has written a number of novels and nonfiction books. His screen credits include the television series Pensacola: Wings of Gold, as writer and consultant.

Black Star Rising by Robert Gandt

Black Star Rising the sixth book in a series of Naval aviation thrillers stars Brick Maxwell. Black Star Rising as others in the series is a "stand alone" quick read that any aviation enthusiast or lover of fast paced thrillers is sure to enjoy. The naval combat aviation is taut and exciting. Combine this with covert ground operations, salty in your face leadership and a love interest and you have the makings of a non-stop winning read. I believe that that Bob Gandt continues to improve his craft of writing with each effort and Black Star Rising is his best to date. Make sure you have a few hours when you sit down because putting the book down will be a challenge.

Carrier aviation at its best

Bob Gandt's Brick Maxwell series is probably the most authentic naval aviation fiction being produced today. You even vicariously pull several "G's" as Brick's plane gets flung off the carrier's catapult or tries to roll inside his opponent -- it's that authentic. Gandt has a unique way of explaining the obscure naval term or aviator's jargon that keeps you feeling "with it" while not interfering in the slightest with the continuity of the plot.

Gandt's knowledge of contemporaneous world events and his continuous exposure to naval carrier operations help greatly in lending contemporaneous authenticity to each of his novels. Try his works -- you'll love them!

Brick Maxwell and General Zhang Yu mix it up over the South China Sea

Sit down and shut up as Gandt stuffs us into the seat of the military's finest aerial hardware. This time it is the secret stealth jet - Black Star. The flying sequences are top notch. Even if you are not a shithot Navy pilot, Gandt knows how to draw the reader into the cockpit in a very visceral way. I even find myself grunting on the cat launches! It is precisely why I love his writing. The author has obviously "been there and done that". The plot line has the typical good guy, bad guy sequence and obligatory love interest. Brick Maxwell is the James Bond/Robert Gandt of the U.S. Navy. Good stuff!
